From April 7-9, 2023, the University of Hong Kong will host the ‘Into the Socialverse’ themed Web 3.0 Hackathon. This will be a ‘genesis’ event concentrating on social applications in the context of Web 3.0.
About the Hackathon
BlockBooster, OKX, OxU Hong Kong Blockchain Club, and Gitcoin are co-organizing a Hackathon, which is supported by some prominent HKU units including Techno-entrepreneurship Core, Centre for Asian Entrepreneurship, along with others. The Hackathon presents a prize pool of over 500k HKD with additional sponsored challenge rewards, investment opportunities, and incubation prospects. The event consists of three elements: builder-focused workshops, online panel discussions & project reviews, and a Demo Day.
As Managing Director of Global Institutional at OKX, Lennix Lai shared his enthusiasm for the future of blockchain in Hong Kong. He believes the city is poised to begin a new chapter in the blockchain sector and OKX is eager to help facilitate its growth.
Industry experts will explore the Web3 Social landscape, current market conditions, and technological ecosystems during the workshops. Blockbooster mentors will then guide teams to success via an online and offline Hackathon, offering professional advice on product-market fit, market approach, and contract auditing.
The Main Goal of the Hackathon
The event is designed to support entrepreneurs in accurately positioning their products and accelerating project development. On Demo Day, top venture capital investors and exchanges will be present to facilitate connections between project builders and investors as well as industry connections. This event will work in conjunction with Gitcoin and DoraHacks to examine potential sources of funding for any other Hong Kong hackathon themes.
The mentor committee is composed of a prestigious group of industry professionals, including distinguished degens, accomplished founders, and specialists in the Defi, NFT, Game/Guild, Smart Contracts, and so on. Workshops will include some of the most innovative Web3 social projects, such as Mask Network and Galxe. BlockBooster seeks to build the first Web3 innovation development and project ecosystem in Hong Kong, collaborating with over 20 industry-leading organizations and 10 local financial and technology stakeholders and institutions.
