Fluence, a cloudless computing platform, is championing a call for cryptocurrency firms and industry players to publicly commit to decentralized physical infrastructure network solutions through the DePIN Pledge. The initiative, backed by major organizations including IoTeX, Polygon, Helium, and Consensys, seeks to build more transparent and resilient ecosystems in the web3 and cryptocurrency space.
Decentralization has long been touted as an ideal in the web3 ecosystem. However, the rise of cloud hyperscalers and artificial intelligence computing have led many projects to depend heavily on centralized infrastructure, thus deviating from their original decentralized ethos. Fluence believes that as the industry continues to evolve, maintaining decentralization is more imperative than ever.
As announced in a press release, firms that commit to the DePIN Pledge will be listed in a public directory on the initiative’s website. This enables traders and users to easily identify and support companies that are actively promoting decentralization through their technology and infrastructure.
In addition to being listed, firms that commit to the pledge will receive a manifesto and a DePIN Pledge Non-Fungible Token (NFT). The NFT, auditable on the Ethereum (ETH) blockchain, serves as a symbol of the company’s commitment to decentralization and can be displayed across various platforms and social media channels.
The initiative has garnered support from several major crypto firms including Infura, Consensys, IoTeX, Outlier Ventures, Polygon, Helium, and Blockscout.
Tom Trowbridge, Co-Founder & CEO of Fluence, expressed his enthusiasm about the pledge, particularly the spotlight it shines on businesses using DePIN to enhance their operations. “We are at the very beginning of DePIN adoption and over the coming years we expect to see a wide range of DePIN products and services used by all kinds of projects and companies,” stated Trowbridge.
One notable example of the adoption of decentralized technology is the partnership between Consensys and Infura in the development of the decentralized infrastructure network, which has been processing requests across multiple blockchains.
Clemens Wan, a global solutions architect at Consensys, reiterated the network’s commitment to delivering high-performance web3 infrastructure through permissionless and decentralized mechanisms. Wan stated that the DePIN Pledge aligns with their vision of maintaining web3’s foundation in decentralization. “We support the DePIN manifesto because the promise of Web3 cannot be fully realized until the core infrastructure services the industry relies on mirror the values we all stand for,” said Wan.
