UFC Instagram Account Hacked, Used to Promote Fraudulent Meme coin

In an alarming cyber breach last night, hackers managed to infiltrate the official UFC Instagram account. The malefactors attempted to promote a fraudulent memecoin, according to a confirmation by an official to MMA Junkie, who reported that the UFC’s account was compromised at approximately 8:40pm ET.

Eyewitnesses reported that the deceptive post remained visible for at least an hour. In the meantime, the UFC organisation refrained from acknowledging the post publicly. The caption of the post read, “UFC fans have been waiting, and the moment is here. Get ready to own the legacy. Precision. Strength. All in one coin. #UFC #UnleashTheFight.”

In addition, the hackers used the UFC’s Instagram story as another avenue to promote the counterfeit cryptocurrency. The incident was brought to light by MMA Junkie reporter Mike Bohn, who shared a screenshot of the UFC crypto promotion.

The post triggered a flurry of speculation amongst users. Several questioned the authenticity of the hacking claims. One individual posed the question, “Why have [UFC] not commented about this?” Another chimed in, asking, “Is it really hacked? Because this is something Dana [White, UFC President] would do.”

The incident comes amid a surge of unexpected memecoin announcements this month. Notably, former President Donald Trump announced his TRUMP coin via social media rather than through an official government channel, raising eyebrows and leading many to wonder if his account had been hacked.

Similarly, Vine co-founder Rus Yusupov also made a surprising crypto token announcement. The abruptness of the release was met with such suspicion that Yusupov found himself compelled to film a video confirming its legitimacy.

The UFC incident underscores the growing concern around digital security, particularly in the realm of social media. As the trend of memecoins continues to gain traction, the potential for misuse and fraud is a risk that needs to be mitigated.

At the time of writing, the UFC has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident. However, the infiltration of the UFC’s Instagram account stands as a stark reminder to the public and other organizations of the importance of digital security measures, especially in an era where cryptocurrencies are becoming increasingly mainstream.
