Pump.fun Revamps Live-Streaming Feature with Stricter Content Moderation after Suspension for Harmful Content

After a lengthy suspension prompted by a series of disturbing incidents, Pump.fun, the popular Solana-based meme coin launchpad, has finally reinstated its live-streaming feature. This much-awaited move, currently accessible by merely 5% of users, is accompanied by an extensive overhaul of the platform’s content moderation policies aimed at ensuring the safety of users and maintaining the platform’s integrity.

In November 2024, Pump.fun suspended their live-streaming feature following multiple unsettling incidents involving explicit acts, threats of violence, and self-harm. This led to widespread condemnation from the community and intense scrutiny of Pump.fun’s approach to content moderation. The platform responded by temporarily disabling the feature, pledging to reassess its systems and guidelines before its restoration. Furthermore, Pump.fun has also had to contend with a cease and desist order, instigated by two class-action lawsuits alleging intellectual property violations earlier this year.

Now, with the partial restoration of the live-streaming feature, Pump.fun has unveiled a robust content moderation framework. This new system aims to foster user creativity while simultaneously preventing harmful or unlawful behavior. The platform’s new Livestream Moderation Policy clearly delineates that certain types of content will be categorically unacceptable, including graphic violence, harassment, sexual exploitation, child endangerment, illegal activities, and privacy violations such as doxxing. It also strictly forbids the glorification of terrorism, violent extremism, and the unauthorized use of copyrighted content.

Despite the stringent guidelines, Pump.fun has opted for a more nuanced approach towards Not Safe For Work (NSFW) content. Rather than outright banning such material, the platform has decided to evaluate each case individually, exercising discretion to determine what aligns with the community’s ethos and safety standards, thereby attempting to strike a balance between creative freedom and responsible content oversight.

Significantly, the platform views this policy as a “living document,” subject to revisions based on user feedback, moderators, and external policy experts’ suggestions. This adaptive approach underlines the platform’s commitment to evolving with its community and promptly addressing emerging challenges.

The enforcement of the new policy will be ensured by a dedicated moderation team with the authority to terminate streams and suspend accounts when violations occur. Users whose content is removed will have the opportunity to appeal decisions via Pump.fun’s support system. However, the final decision on content appropriateness and account enforcement resides exclusively with the platform.

By reinstating its live-streaming feature with enhanced safeguards, Pump.fun aims to rebuild trust and create a safer, more engaging environment for its users. The platform’s renewed focus on moderation marks a critical stride towards preserving its reputation while fostering the vibrant culture of meme coin innovation.
